Luna cinema welcomes Oscar winning director Eva Orner (Taxi To The Dark Side) to present her explosive and highly relevant documentary feature Chasing Asylum, on Sunday June 3rd at 5.15pm. This special event allows the audience to engage in an depth Q&A session with the director following the screening.

Chasing Asylum exposes the real impact of Australia’s offshore detention policies and explores how ‘The Lucky Country’ became a country where leaders choose detention over compassion and governments deprive the desperate of their basic human rights.

Chasing Asylum Q&A screening

The film features never before seen footage from inside Australia’s offshore detention camps, revealing the personal impact of sending those in search of a safe home to languish in limbo.

Chasing Asylum explores the mental, physical and fiscal consequences of Australia’s decision to lock away  families  in  unsanitary  conditions  hidden  from  media  scrutiny,  destroying  their  lives  under  the pretext of saving them.

In their quest to expose the awful conditions imposed on asylum seekers spending time in detention on Nauru and Manus Islands, a number of former workers from inside the system have participated and spoken out for the first time.

We also hear from journalist David Marr, human rights lawyer David Manne, journalist Michael Bachelard and former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser in one of his final interviews.

Eva will also be on hand to sign her book of the same name in which she recounts her journey as a filmmaker, and the personal story of the cost, risk and rewards of putting yourself on the line for a film and for a cause.
