Save Water, Drink Wine

A glass of wine at the end of a long day is good, but a day full of winery hopping in Margaret River is so much better.

Whether organising a weekend getaway with friends or wanting to become more acquainted with the Margaret river region (and most importantly its fantastic wineries), Cellar d’Or tours are ready to show you the best it has to offer.

After pick up from your accommodation in the morning (I recommend a substantial breakfast!), this whole day tour covers 5 wineries, a platter lunch and tastings at a micro-brewery, as well as cheese, olive oil and chocolate sampling before dropping you home in the evening. The best part is it will only set you back $88 dollars per person!

You Had Me at Merlot

Owners Nicole and Simon White bought the business back in 2014 which had been originally established 8 years ago.

Moving to Margaret River in 1997, the couple bought an old dairy farm of 75 acres to establish their own vineyard. 16,000 vines later, Nicole and Simon were supplying fruit to well-known wineries in the region including Vasse Felix, Clairault and Howard Park- while keeping a small amount to make wine for themselves, family and friends.

After selling their vineyard in 2013, the pair began their search for a new adventure when Cellar d’Or came onto the market. Indulging their passion for wine and being able to share it with like-minded people every day, Nicole and Simon knew it was the perfect fit.

Combined with a number of established contacts in the industry, and great knowledge of the region, Simon and Nicole knew they could provide an excellent service its visitors.

Stop and Smell the Rosé

With a host of wineries that they frequent often, each tour is different. Every day is tailored to your area of pick up, with no more that 10 – 15 minutes between each stop- meaning more wine and less driving!

When organising tours, they favour smaller, family owned wineries who can provide a more personal touch as you often have the tasting run by the owner or winemaker.

With all the wineries pre-booked, the presenters will have allotted time to give your group their undivided attention- which is often much more personalised than if you were to walk in off the street. This also means no waiting and no rushing, just fun, laughter and most importantly; more wine.

Love the Wine Your With

The perks are obvious, accommodating for groups anywhere between 2 and 13 people, everyone can enjoy a great day together with no need to nominate a skipper who would otherwise miss out.

All you need to organise is getting yourself on the bus in the morning and the rest is taken care of! Enjoy the expertise of your driver, banter with the wine makers and the beautiful scenery passing by your window.

Nicole and Simon say it’s easy to be in the tourism industry in the beautiful Margaret River region, as its gorgeous landscape, pristine beaches and world class wine sells itself.

However, they believe it is the people that makes their tours a standout. Seeing guests enjoying their day is their number one priority, and they go above and beyond to make sure everyone is getting the most out of their day.

Life is a Cabernet

I can personally attest to this having recently enjoyed my third tour with Cellar d’Or, where Simon became an extension of our group rather than just a tour guide. A great day was had by all, and Simon was a champ to put up with our wine fuelled shenanigans. The wine we sampled was superb, and it was great to visit smaller places I had never been to before.

Having established relationships with so many wineries, every tour I have been on has been different to the last, and I would book with them again in a heartbeat.

As well as their wine tours, Cellar d’Or also offer a private charter service where you can hire a bus for an hourly rate for a minimum of 5 hours. You are then given the option of designate the venues you would like to visit or opt to have Cellar d’Or assist in creating an itinerary. This can be perfect for work groups or a girls/boys weekend.

Wine Not?

Operating their tours 7 days a week,  you can easily fit a tour into your stay. As a true family owned business, Nicole and Simon do most of the driving themselves, but also have 2 relief drivers to help them out.

Whether its summer or winter, find an excuse for a road trip down south and book yourself in for a day with Cellar d’Or. It’s the perfect day to unwind with friends and get the most out of your visit to the region.
